Surgical expertise
Severe deep infiltrating endometriosis
You’ll have the expertise of our world-class robotic endometriosis team, who specialise in radical nerve-sparing and fertility-preserving treatment using the latest technology.
We aim to complete your treatment in a single surgical procedure, avoiding multiple operations for deep endometriosis even if the condition affects multiple organs and systems. We use principles of “conservative radicality” to remove the disease in full, ensuring a high level of accuracy and minimal damage when working around sensitive areas such as the ovarian reserve, pelvic organs, nerves and blood vessels.
Bowel endometriosis
For suspected endometriosis of the bowel, you’ll be offered an extensive pre-operative assessment including a special MRI scan to assess the extent of the disease before surgery.
If the diagnosis is confirmed by the MRI, you’ll have access to a wide range of innovative surgical techniques, which may include bowel shaving, discoid stapler bowel resection or, for large or multiple bowel endometriosis nodules, economical segmental bowel resection. All are performed as keyhole robotic operations.
Stapler discoid bowel resection
This is the most innovative technique to remove deep infiltrating endometriosis of the bowel. It has a lower complication rate, a lower recurrence rate and offers a quicker recovery for patients.
We are one of the first specialist units in the UK to use this technique widely, and have a very low complication rate. We take great care to ensure our patients’ well-being before, during and after surgery, which reflects in our data, which shows excellent results in improving patients' quality of life, pain levels and sexual function.
Urinary tract endometriosis
If your MRI confirms a diagnosis of bladder endometriosis, we offer excisional treatment. This may include the removal of full-thickness bladder nodules, bladder reconstruction and ureteric re-implantation. All these procedures are performed as minimal-access robotic operations by our expert gynaecology and urology robotic surgeons.
Diaphragmatic and lung endometriosis
We offer excisional treatment for confirmed diaphragmatic and chest endometriosis. These minimal-access, robotic operations are performed by our joint surgical robotic team, which includes expert gynaecology, as well as upper GI and thoracic surgeons.
